Curriculum
New Sainik Schools follow ‘Academic Plus Curriculum’ as prescribed by Sainik Schools Society to have a balanced mix of academic rigour, physical activities, NCC, sports and value based education. Cadets have regular mid-terms and term exams aligned with non-sainik students. Cadets can choose day-boarding or residential option.
Teaching & Learning
Cadets attend the following periods as part of their weekly routine.
- Subjects – English, 2nd Language (Tamil or Hindi or French), Maths, Science, Social Science. NCERT Textbooks are used.
- Enrichment periods – Library, Science lab, Math Lab, News Analysis, Leader in Me (Life skills program based on Stephen Covey Seven habits)
- NCC Drill, NCC Field craft training
- Skill Based Training (Fire Fighting / First Aid / Self defence)
Immersion activities
Each cadet to choose a sport and art to specialize in.
Sports immersion
- Football (coached by Chennaiyin FC coaches) [or]
- Basketball (coached by NBA USA coaches) [or]
- Rifle Shooting or Pistol Shooting (at Madurai Rifle Club) [or]
- Shuttle badminton (coached by Padukone School of Badminton coaches) [or]
- Archery
Cultural immersion
- Keyboard (to attend Trinity School of Music London certification) [or]
- Violin (to Bridge Academy Exams) [or]
- Bharatham (to Bridge Academy Exams)
Inter-house Events
Cadets are placed in four different houses & compete among each other in academics, sports events, literature, art and cultural competitions. As cadets win an event, they gather points for their houses. The winning house is awarded a rolling shield at the end of every year.
